Sonia auditioned for the role of Maria in the highly successful TV series “Sesame Street” after the success she had while on stage.Sonia’s career started when she was still in college, performing in 1971 in the “Godspell” off-Broadway production.Later, when she received a scholarship, she enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.Sonia Manzano spent her childhood in New York City’s South Bronx, where she attended the High School of Performing Arts and began to participate in numerous school plays there.
